Hardware / a practical field guide

Build a reliable parcel-weighing routine

Distinguish resolution, capacity, tare and repeatability when checking a shipping scale.

A focused guide, a worked example and a six-point action worksheet.

Start with the decisions that matter

01

Define the measurement you need

List the lightest and heaviest parcels, required reporting unit and acceptable operational variation.

02

Control the weighing conditions

Use a stable surface and follow the instrument’s setup instructions.

03

Record gross, tare and net clearly

Gross includes the container; net excludes it after tare is accounted for.

A concrete example

A parcel is measured as 2.4 kg, while another station reports 2.1 kg. The team finds an old tare setting on the second scale. It clears the setting under the operating procedure and repeats the measurement rather than averaging two incompatible readings.

Turn the guide into an action plan

Use the worksheet to record evidence, open questions and the next person responsible. Check only the items you have actually reviewed. Download a text copy or print your working notes.
